The Birth of The Gallery Cafe Blairgowrie: A Creative Dream Come True
The Gallery Cafe Blairgowrie is the heartwarming creation of Anna, an artist with a passion for community and creativity. Born from her desire to share her artistic journey and foster a space where others can do the same, the cafe officially opened in October 2025. Located in a vibrant and welcoming space, it has quickly become a hub for local artists and community members to connect through art, food, and shared experiences.
Anna’s Artistic Roots and Community Spirit
Anna’s lifelong involvement in community activities has always revolved around bringing people together. Her earlier venture was a motel in a small NSW town, where the local entertainment was crafted by the townspeople themselves. Engaging deeply with the local arts scene and participating in creative events, Anna and her husband Peter also supported the community through their involvement with a local radio station—hosting shows and helping organize events that united residents through music and arts.
A Return to the Peninsula and a New Beginning
After years away from the Peninsula, Anna and Peter made a heartfelt decision in 2024 to return and reconnect with their roots. They purchased the old milk bar in Blairgowrie, dreaming of transforming it into a community arts hub. The once humble space underwent an incredible transformation, and by October 2025, it blossomed into The Gallery Cafe Blairgowrie—an inspiring space full of art, food, and community spirit.
Celebrating Local Artists and Creative Workshops
Today, over 25 talented artists from across the Mornington Peninsula showcase their work at the cafe. Many of these artists also run workshops, sharing skills in watercolor, embroidery, pastel painting, scratchboard, paper craft, and more. Anna’s love of combining food and art shines through in initiatives like her Mad-Hatter Tea Parties for children, where kids paint with food dye on cookies, creating edible watercolour masterpieces while enjoying stories from Alice in Wonderland. Future plans include themed children’s birthday parties, complete with games, treats, and artistic fun.

Music, Community, and Live Jamming Sessions
The cafe’s spacious environment has become a lively space for music and community gatherings. Since February 2026, every Tuesday afternoon has been dedicated to The Blairgowrie Jammers—an energetic group of local musicians who come together to perform and share their love of music. The community’s response has been fantastic, with locals and visitors alike popping in to enjoy the jam sessions over afternoon tea.
Delicious Food Made with Love
Anna’s culinary talents are a cornerstone of the cafe. She bakes cakes, scones, and slices daily, and the cafe is renowned for its gourmet sandwiches, house-made soups, pies, and sausage rolls. Her passion for creating delightful food complements the artistic atmosphere, making The Gallery Cafe a perfect place to relax, enjoy good company, and indulge in delicious treats.
Anna’s Artistic Journey and Inspiration
Anna’s own artistic journey began during the Covid pandemic when she discovered a Facebook live tutorial from English artist Artistic Nick. What started as a clumsy attempt to draw turned into a lifelong passion for painting and drawing. Today, she treasures her creative pursuits and enjoys inspiring others through her art and her cafe.
Innovative Ideas for Artists and Visitors
Recently, Anna introduced the Artist in Residence program, an incentive designed to support local artists by providing them with a dedicated environment to create and find inspiration. She also plans to host Monday Lunch-and-Learn sessions, where exhibiting artists will demonstrate their techniques and share stories, followed by a communal lunch. Additionally, weekend exhibitions will offer more artists the opportunity to showcase their work and connect with the community.

Community Engagement and Notable Highlights
Recent exhibitions, such as Jan Dance’s photography of the Peninsula—whose proceeds supported Fight MND—highlight the cafe’s dedication to meaningful causes. This event even gained attention from Channel Seven News, further cementing The Gallery Cafe’s place as a vital community hub.
A Personal Connection and Family Legacy
For Anna, the cafe is more than just a creative space—it’s a tribute to her family. Her grandfather, known as Hamburger Bill, was famous for his hamburgers near their home in Melbourne. The cafe also represents a long-held dream of living and working on the Peninsula, enjoying the beachside lifestyle and the relaxed, artistic vibe that she grew up with. Sundays filled with family jam sessions and shared meals continue to inspire her.
A Future Filled with Creativity and Community
Anna’s dream is to keep nurturing a space where art, food, music, and community flourish. With upcoming projects, new exhibitions, and ongoing events, The Gallery Cafe Blairgowrie promises to remain a vibrant, inspiring destination for everyone, celebrating local talent and creative spirit.
