Monday 17h February 2025 1-2pm https://rppfm.com.au

David is a video production specialist and the founder of Havashot Media, based in Melbourne, Australia. His work is all about storytelling and capturing the energy of an event, helping a business connect with their audience and creating something that moves people emotionally.  Effective storytelling, whether through photography, videography, or content creation, plays a crucial role in engaging audiences and evoking emotions.

For David, the essence of video-making lies in its ability to encapsulate emotions; if a video fails to convey a feeling, he feels he has not fulfilled his creative responsibility. This commitment to emotional storytelling drives him to craft visually compelling narratives that connect with viewers on a profound level, ensuring that each project resonates and leaves a lasting impression.

When David ventured into the video production journey it wasn’t exactly a traditional pathway. Initially he started out as a barrister’s clerk, and to be honest, he hated it. Eventually, he quit, but before he left, he got the chance to do some marketing at his workplace and that’s when his thinking started to change. A good friend of Davids who was already working in video took him under his wing and taught him the basics. David was paid to edit some of the projects which led him to get a foot in the door. This sparked a newfound clarity in his career path, paving the way for his future endeavours. David built up his skills and eventually went all in as a freelancer.

As the founder of Havashot Media, Davids’s focus is on creating videos that tell a story. His mission is to create impactful storytelling videos with a message and a vision that resonate deeply with his clients. He has worked on a variety of projects over the years, and there are a few that stand out. He was lucky enough to work on a horror film as a First Assistant Camera (and even got to shoot some of it himself). He has also filmed on location in Fiji for Insta360 and regularly covers music events like Ninch Nights, which are always a blast. In addition, he has also been involved in big-budget corporate events like the Queensland Training Awards and the Queensland Export Awards, which had a half-million-dollar production budget.

One of the key parts of his work that he’s extremely proud of is creating videos for charities. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that the work he is doing is helping people and supporting causes that make a real difference. There’s another business that provides funding to cover his services, which means the charities don’t have to worry about the cost. For David, the true fulfillment in his work comes not from financial gain but from utilizing his skills to amplify meaningful messages and witnessing the tangible impact of his efforts. This drive reflects a deep passion for creativity and communication, motivating him to foster connections that resonate with audiences and inspire positive change.

When it comes to working with clients, whether it’s musicians, government departments, or local councils, David has learnt that every project requires its own approach. You can’t treat two clients the same. The key is understanding the brief, communicating clearly, and doing everything you can to deliver something that exceeds their expectations.

Of course, working solo isn’t always easy. Navigating the financial aspects of running a small business can indeed be one of the most challenging aspects of being a business owner. Although Video is in high demand these days many small and medium-sized businesses don’t have the budget to invest in projects ultimately leaving David to figure out how to overcome that barrier. But he remains focused on building strong relationships and producing the best work he can, never losing sight for his passion in his creative field.

One thing he is proud of is his attention to detail with music. As a musician himself, David has a good ear for finding the right track to complement the visuals. Clients almost never push back on his choices, which is something he takes pride in. And he also loves telling stories. Whether it’s a corporate video or something more creative, he wants it to feel cohesive and engaging. One client told him a video he made almost brought them to tears, which was the ultimate compliment.

Living on the Mornington Peninsula has been a big influence on his work and perspective. It’s a beautiful and inspiring place to live, with a strong sense of community and plenty of creative energy. At the same time, it’s a bit removed from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne’s creative scene, which has pushed David to seek out unique opportunities and networks. “I feel like the Peninsula is a hidden gem, and I’m excited to keep growing my business here while finding ways to make an impact locally and beyond”, says David.

When he is not working, you can usually find him hanging out with family, playing music, gaming, or geeking out over the latest tech. Music has always been a huge part of his life, and it feeds directly into the work he is doing.

If there’s one philosophy David lives by, it’s this: “Do what you can for others. I’ve learned that success isn’t just about what you can do for yourself. It’s about helping others. The more value you bring to people, the more you build trust and relationships that lead to bigger opportunities”.

Although David believes what he is doing is a bit of an unconventional path with plenty of challenges along the way, he wouldn’t change a thing!

His mission focuses on crafting captivating videos that not only narrate compelling stories but also resonate emotionally with viewers, leaving a lasting impression that lingers long after the screen goes dark.

Davids has an enthusiasm for the journey ahead and is eager to explore the opportunities and experiences that await, knowing that each step will contribute to personal and professional growth, and discovery.
