It took a little convincing from council to bring my idea to life but with the support of local MP, Liz Beattie, ‘Matty the tagger’ was given the green light to design and create artwork on the roller shutters at the front of my former salon ‘Think’ Innovation Hair and Beauty.
Matty painted a mural that became a positive talking point in the community of Craigieburn for many years. You could not help but look at his artwork on every drive by because it just looked spectacular! The attention to detail of design and colour was on point. On many occasions, we took advantage of the colourful backdrop posing for photos that are memories that will live on forever.
In mid 2020 l went through my phone and was happy to find the name l kept as my contact, ‘Matty the tagger’. I immediately got in touch with Matty and was happy to hear his voice as l wanted to ask permission to use the mural he so beautifully created, as the cover for my book, “Unbosoming’.
It made sense to incorporate Matty’s artwork into my book because it represented me, my salon, and my community for thirty-three years. l expressed my thoughts to Matty and was pleased that he supported my idea.
Back in the day l may have named him ‘Matty the tagger’ but today his professional name is Adnate, a well-known Australian artist. Adnate, works closely with indigenous people and his masterpieces are located all around Australia, and the world.
Do yourself a favour and check out his website and social media page. Talented is an understatement. Adnate, your murals are fu**ing amazing!
On 12th October 2022, Adnate was nominated as a finalist at the ARIA AWARDS in the category for BEST COVER ART.
