ALZZY is the indie-pop/neo-soul artist project of Melbourne-based singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Alyssa Allet.

Born in Southeast Melbourne, Australia, into a family of musicians and music lovers, Alyssa found an appreciation for music at a young age. Her parents say that she used to sing around the house constantly as kindergartener, so she inevitably began vocal training (at age 6). For 15 years, Alyssa trained as a vocalist continually developing her vocal technique and experience in emotion-centred singing.

Alyssa further advanced her musical abilities, learning guitar from age 11 and beginning her songwriting journey soon after, which is what truly sparked her love for the creative intricacies of music.

It was also around this point in her life that she watched the “Katy Perry: Part of Me” film that, in many ways, changed her life. The film opens with multiple people sharing about how Katy Perry’s music had impacted them; how it had encouraged them, reminded them of their worth, and helped them through the toughest moments of their lives. Seeing this and realising the power that music can have to make a positive difference in others’ lives, Alyssa decided that she was going to whole-heartedly pursue a career in music.

Throughout her high school years, Alyssa continued to write songs and began working as a live musician, playing gigs around Melbourne, including events for Ronald McDonald House, Toyota, BMW and at festivals including St Kilda, Frankston, Knox and Forest Edge Music Festival. She also secured a three-year residency at the Yarraville Club.

Alongside this, Alyssa began worship leading, and writing and recording music at her church, CityLife Church. This church community not only helped her grow in her faith journey but is where Alyssa got to sing with a live band for the first time, got to record in a studio for the first time, and met many of her current friends and musical collaborators.

In 2017, Alyssa released her debut folk, singer/songwriter EP, “Find My Way” under the artist’s name, “ALZZY”. This six-song EP centres around the thoughts and life experiences of her 15-year-old-self, and features songs written with soul singer/songwriter, Fatai and songwriting/production duo, MSquared Productions (Michael Paynter and Michael DeLorenzis).

After the EP and finishing year 12 in 2018, Alyssa dedicated her time to further building her live performance presence across Melbourne’s live music scene. From appearances at The Night Cat, The Toff, Chapel Off Chapel, Hotel Esplanade and The Workers Club, to supporting artists including Meg Mac, Bella Taylor Smith, Kaiit, Rita Satch and more, ALZZY has captivated crowds with her compelling original music and unique covers.

She also began a Bachelor of Music course, specialising in composition and music technology at Monash University in 2019, completing her studies in 2023. Since 2020, Alyssa has been passionately working as a songwriting coach, helping aspiring artists in Melbourne and beyond to hone their craft and develop their musical talents, a role she continues to embrace to this day.

But at this point, her most exciting opportunity was still yet to come!

Soon after starting her university course and her coaching business, Alyssa accepted the offer of her dreams, to be a songwriter with a major publishing company. At age 20, she got signed as a songwriter/topliner to Universal Music Publishing Group and Left Hand Publishing. Though this is an opportunity Alyssa is extremely grateful for, it didn’t come without its challenges.

Over the past three years, particularly during this phase of her journey, she has encountered numerous moments where her dedication to music as a songwriter and artist has seemed like an overwhelming and challenging uphill struggle. Like many others in the music industry, Alyssa has experienced her share of closed doors, hurtful words, doubt, and unmet expectations. But this hasn’t stopped her from giving it her best - she has kept going.

Despite the obstacles, in the past 12 months alone, Alyssa has completed her first international songwriting trip to Nashville, TN, sung at Byron Bay BluesFest with the Women of Soul Collective, released her 'first single' and had it played on Nova FM, released her first 'music video' and had it featured on rage (as the “Wild One” video of the week), played her debut headline show, and has started working toward her next recording project - an indie-pop and neo-soul influenced EP all about mental health, anxiety, new perspectives and growing up.

Alyssa constantly challenges herself to expand her creative boundaries and refine her artistry, using every experience- positive or negative- as a means of personal growth. Her goal is to connect with her listeners on a deeper level encouraging them to feel understood and inspired to recognise and purse their own potential through her music.
