It's almost a year since MPTC was formed over the Xmas dinner table. The conversation went something like this:
"There's not enough theatre around here. We need more,”
“Why is that?”
“I don't know. There’s no reason why not; after all, it's not rocket surgery.”
"I’ve done it before with The Royal George in London and Teatro Lamplight in Spain.’
“So why don't you do it again?”
"Why?”
“Yes, why?”
“OK I will.”
And so, I did.
And so, in 2024 at the same dinner table, after pulling the crackers (bon bons) and after telling all the jokes, and too much Turkey, the conversation will turn to how the first year was. And the answer is fantastically well, thank you.
Lady WIndermere’s Fan was a runaway success. Audiences adored it. We followed that with “Much Ado about nothing” which similarly was a great success. Audiences love the intimate and immersive nature of theatre-in-the-round, where they can see the actors from multiple angles and feel like they're part of the performance.
We’ve had a few setbacks. Some of the venues work better than others. Which is to be expected, I suppose. The ups and downs of venue-hopping! It's all part of the journey, and with each new space comes the opportunity to adapt and learn. Setbacks are a natural part of the creative process, especially with venue-hopping. Each location presents its own challenges and unique character, allowing for growth and innovation. Embracing these experiences as opportunities to learn and adapt will ultimately enrich the performances and strengthen the overall journey for everyone involved.
We are eternally grateful to all those who have supported us during 2024.
It's clear that the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the productions has been met with appreciation from the community, and that's something to be truly proud of.
Here's hoping that the enthusiasm and energy of the theatre shows will
encourage both new audiences and returning theatregoers fostering a vibrant community around the performances. Creating a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels engaged will undoubtedly enhance the experience, and it’s wonderful to anticipate even more exciting productions in 2025!

First up is our new venture — Open-air Shakespeare at The Briars where we are, presenting Twelfth Night in February 2025. The Briars offers a picturesque backdrop for Shakespeare's classic comedy, and I'm sure the audience will appreciate the unique experience of watching a live performance amidst the natural surroundings.
Twelfth Night is a great play, with its themes of love, deception, and revelry.
Performing Shakespeare outdoors at The Briars will be a wonderfully enchanting experience. There's something special about watching a play outdoors, surrounded by nature and good company. The Briars' picturesque environment will enhance the charm and intimacy of the open-air performance, making it a unique experience for attendees. The combination of Shakespeare's witty dialogue and the natural setting will surely leave a lasting impression on everyone involved.
The Briars will surely create a memorable experience for the audience.
All you need to do is book your tickets, bring a picnic and a rug or a cushion and enjoy a bit of Shakespearean mayhem on the Homestead Lawn.
