Eddie Wearne- Vicco Quiver

The Early Days: Born from Rebellion and Creativity

Eddie Wearne’s story begins in the carefree, rebellious spirit of Byron Bay in the 1980s. Growing up amidst the scent of the ocean, encounters with big snakes, and the vibrant energy of a coastal paradise, his childhood was filled with skateboarding down suburban streets and exploring surf breaks with friends. Despite his parents’ separation on his eighth birthday, Eddie’s resilience shone through. He moved across towns and schools until finally settling in Melbourne, carrying with him a love for adventure and community.

His upbringing was a melting pot of cultures—Vietnamese boat people, Croatian and Greek mates, Chinese, Taiwanese, and South Americans—each adding to his rich, diverse world. In this environment of acceptance and love, Eddie learned that being true to oneself was the greatest freedom of all.

From an early age, Eddie’s passion for skating and surfing ignited. Memories of riding banana boards, feeling like he was surfing the waves of Byron Bay on Melbourne’s streets, fuelled his adventurous spirit.

Juggling school, work, and passions, Eddie faced challenges—mowing lawns, working retail, earning scholarships in music, and participating in sports. Despite hardships, his unwavering determination led him to create surf and skate films, open a community-focused shop, and share his love for the lifestyle with others.

Growing with Community: From Car Boots to Core Store

In a world dominated by mass-produced fashion, Shednine emerged as a beacon of authenticity, community, and passion for extreme sports. Founded in 1996, by 1998, they had ventured into printing hand-designed, often Australian-made T-shirts. This marked the point when Shednine quickly grew into a movement, resonating with individuals who valued originality and the adrenaline-fueled spirit of extreme sports culture.

By 1999, the brand was trademarked—and it became more than just apparel. Shednine embodied a lifestyle, a statement, and a community. Their clothing, crafted with care, reflected the ethos of those who wore it.

In those early days, Shednine’s roots were grassroots—sold from the back of cars at skate parks and beaches—building genuine relationships with passionate riders and surfers. In 2006, they opened their iconic Core Store at Rye Ocean Beach, nestled among Australia’s top surf and snow destinations. With the support of a NEIS grant, this humble shop became a hub for local riders, skaters, and snow enthusiasts—a place where community thrived.

From VHS to DVD: The Films That Changed the Game

Shednine’s influence extended well beyond apparel. The core team, alongside Australia’s best riders, produced groundbreaking films that captured the essence of extreme sports. Distributed nationwide on VHS and later DVDs, these productions weren’t just videos—they were milestones that inspired a generation.

From surf and skate to snowboarding and FMX, Shednine’s films showcased raw talent and daring adventure. They celebrated the freedom to ride everything, everywhere, transforming the way Australians experienced extreme sports.

A Lifestyle Rooted in the Ocean and Mountain

For Eddie, riding everything isn’t just a slogan—it's a way of life. His love for surfing, skating, snowboarding, and bodyboarding reflects a profound connection with nature and a pursuit of adrenaline. His journey is filled with stories of waves that shaped him and moments of pure joy on snow and pavement.

His "Ride Everything" philosophy breaks down barriers between disciplines, fostering a tight-knit community that values passion, skill, and individual spirit over brands or trends. Whether bombing mountain trails, shredding skate parks, or catching summer waves, Eddie’s approach is about embracing the thrill of the ride.

More Than a Store: A Cultural Community

Shednine isn’t just a retail outlet—it’s a gathering place, a vibrant community hub. Supporting local clubs like Peninsula Surfriders and Bodyboarding Victoria, sponsoring events, and hosting art and music festivals, Shednine nurtures creativity and talent.

Their reach extends across Australia and internationally supporting snow enthusiasts on the mountains and wave riders across Indonesia. Eddie believes the true legacy of Shednine is the community it has built—a space where people of all ages and backgrounds come together, ride, and share stories.

Riding Into the Future: Celebrating 20 Years in 2026

As Shednine approaches its 20th anniversary, Eddie feels immense pride in what has been achieved—from hand-printed shirts to a cornerstone of Australian surf, snow and skate culture.

His vision is to keep inspiring new generations to ride everything and stay true to their roots.

Why Support Shednine?

The COVID pandemic tested Eddie’s resilience like never before. Lockdowns, financial struggles, and personal health crises—including multiple heart attacks after vaccination—shattered normality. Yet his spirit remained unbroken. He fought to stay connected to his passion, his community, and his family, demonstrating that even in darkness, hope and perseverance prevail.

Supporting Shednine means backing a true local legend—more than just a brand, it’s a movement built on passion and authenticity. “When you shop here, you’re joining a community that celebrates living freely, supporting local, and riding with pride” says Eddie
