Sam Pawson is the Chief Enjoyment Officer (CEO) of Studio Paradise—a title he wears with a smile, but a mission he takes deeply to heart. While he’s always up for a laugh, his top priority is serious: to provide a safe, welcoming space where people from all walks of life can explore their yoga and wellbeing practise.
From Court to Crisis
As a young man, Sam was a basketball fanatic. He played at a semi-professional level into his 20s, giving the sport everything he had. But years of playing six nights a week without proper care—no stretching, no recovery—caught up with him. At just 25, he was diagnosed with Osteitis Pubis. His hips were so damaged he struggled to get out of bed. Even laughing caused excruciating pain!
Desperate for a solution, Sam followed his physio’s advice and tried yoga. He stumbled into a Bikram class—unaware it was practised in 38°C heat—and was immediately hooked. The heat and stretching brought his body back to life.
A quote on the studio wall became a mantra:
Practice once a week to change your mind.Practice twice a week to change your body.Practice five times a week to change your whole life.
Sam took the challenge. And yoga did just that—changing his body, then his life.

Awakening a Deeper Purpose
What started as a physical remedy soon became a spiritual calling. Sam, who was raised in a strict religious household, had long questioned the conformity of organised religion. As he began to study yoga philosophy, he discovered answers to questions that had lingered since childhood. It wasn’t just about movement anymore—it was about meaning.
During this time, Sam had also “fallen” into a corporate career. He worked his way up in one of the big four banks, moving into senior leadership roles. The success was undeniable—but so was the emptiness. Something didn’t feel right - Sam felt like he was dying a slow death, working in the soul-crushing world of corporate banking.
In June 2022, he was offered another high-paying senior role. But the thought of accepting it made him feel sick. When he imagined practising and sharing yoga instead, he felt pure joy.
With the support of his beloved partner, Adi—who had just given birth to their daughter, Siena—Sam made a life-changing decision: to walk away from banking and follow his purpose. Without the ongoing support of Adi and Siena, none of this would have been possible!
The Vision for Paradise
Inspired by the idea of a life in harmony, Sam created a business concept called
Paradise Health—a modern take on the Garden of Eden, where people live aligned in body, mind, and spirit. The idea resonated, but feedback on the name was consistent: change it.
Sam spent months trying to buy wellness businesses around Australia, only to face one closed door after another. After a failed business deal in Sydney, he returned home questioning everything—until Adi showed him a new listing: a yoga studio for sale on the Mornington Peninsula.
It felt like divine alignment. Within weeks, the deal was done. Studio Paradise in St Andrews Beach became the new home for Sam’s vision.
Finding the Shala

Before taking over the studio, Sam flew to Ubud, Bali, to complete his 200-hour yoga teacher training. It was a big decision, leaving Adi and newborn Siena behind—but it proved transformative. Practising in places like The Yoga Barn, Sam was deeply inspired by Bali’s holistic approach to wellbeing. It wasn’t just about yoga—it was about community, energy, healing, and heart.
It was there he learned the word Shala:
'Shala' (noun): a word in Sanskrit meaning home; a sacred and safe, nurturing space to practise, share and experience, where people gather to learn, surrender and grow.
That word captured exactly what Sam envisioned for Studio Paradise. It’s not just another yoga studio— it’s a Shala, its home.
Yoga for the 98%
Sam often says that only 2% of people feel comfortable walking into a typical yoga studio. Studio Paradise is for the other 98%—those who’ve never tried yoga, think they’re not “flexible enough,” or just want a more down-to-earth, inclusive experience.
That’s why Studio Paradise offers something for everyone:Yoga, Pilates, Iyengar, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Meditation, Sound Healing, and even Sleep Yoga—where students can simply rest and recharge. There’s no pressure to perform, just permission to show up as you are.
With the recent opening of Studio Paradise Dromana, the community now includes over 30 passionate teachers and healers, each bringing their own magic to the mat.

More Than a Studio—A Community
Studio Paradise is committed to accessibility. Every Sunday morning, both St Andrews Beach and Dromana offer a free Community Class—no bookings, no questions asked. For parents, there are child-friendly classes with free child-minding on Tuesdays and Fridays, making it easier for busy mums and dads to care for themselves, too. There's even a class just for men called Bro Flow!
For Sam, none of this would be possible without Adi’s love and support. Her belief in his vision—and her strength in the early days of raising Siena while Sam trained and built the business—has been the foundation of it all. Studio Paradise is just one big happy family!!
“Is This Your Studio?”
It’s a question Sam gets asked almost daily.
And his answer is always the same:
“No, it’s your studio.”
Because Studio Paradise is a place for everybody—no matter your age, your story, or your level of experience. It’s a home. A refuge. A place to move, to breathe, to connect, to heal.
Sam’s story may have started with injury and disconnection. But it led him to something far greater: a calling to create space for others to come home to themselves.
