Jack and Matt
The Story of Magic Mountain Records
After many years of performing gigs and writing songs within the music industry, brothers Jack and Matt Harrison from Mount Eliza decided to pursue further education in music. In 2019, they enrolled at Collarts to study a Bachelor of Arts with a major in music production. As the COVID pandemic began to subside, they graduated and emerged from lockdown ready to move forward. While continuing to work on their music careers, they started exploring different paths for their future. Ultimately, they chose the one that felt most right, starting their own recording business together as partners. This decision marked the beginning of a new journey, combining their hands-on experience, academic knowledge, and passion for music into a shared entrepreneurial venture.

At the beginning of 2022, Jack and Matt Harrison officially launched their ambitious new venture, Magic Mountain Records. Their vision was rooted in a desire to create a collaborative space for local musicians, building a vibrant community of like-minded artists who could support each other and approach the music industry as a united team. They aimed to not only record and produce music but also to foster creative growth and artistic connections within their local scene.
Over the past three years, Magic Mountain Records has experienced significant growth and success. The label has collaborated with more than 30 different artists across a variety of genres, helping to bring their musical visions to life. Their collective efforts have resulted in a portfolio of over 50 released songs, which have collectively amassed over 330,000 streams on Spotify alone. This achievement reflects their dedication to quality production and their ability to connect with audiences through authentic and compelling music.
Both Jack and Matt are deeply rooted in songwriting, with a passion that has driven their musical careers from a young age. Over the years, they have fronted several projects, including Facades, Blue Captive, and Ted Orient, showcasing their versatility and talent as artists and songwriters. Their musical journey is also a lifelong bond—being brothers separated by six years, they have been playing music together since Jack was just 5 years old and Matt was 11. Growing up sharing a love for music, their collaboration has become a defining aspect of their lives and careers, fuelling their passion to create and produce inspiring music through Magic Mountain Records.
In their childhood, Jack and Matt Harrison began their musical journey by covering rock and pop songs from artists like Foo Fighters, Muse, and Coldplay. Matt would typically handle guitar and vocals, while Jack contributed with harmonies and played percussion or piano, creating a dynamic and synergistic sound from a young age. Over the years, they stayed busy with solo projects and writing music for others, but this year they decided to finally unite their unique styles into a dedicated duo project.
They launched Acrylic Army at the start of winter, marking a new chapter in their musical careers. Their debut single, “Into the Haze,” was released on June 6, 2025. The song embodies themes of friendship and creative exploration—concepts close to their hearts—and felt like the perfect introduction to their collaborative sound. With this project, Jack and Matt are excited to share their distinctive style and continue building their musical journey together.

Jack Harrison
Their musical style is primarily centered around vocal harmony and improvisation, showcasing their remarkable ability to read each other's minds during jam sessions and anticipate the natural direction of a song. Despite their close partnership, Jack and Matt also have distinctly different approaches to making music. Matt’s style is characterized by his love for organic instruments—guitars, drums, pianos—anything where he can channel kinetic energy to create authentic, lively sounds. In contrast, Jack often explores the digital realm, using computers and synthesizers to push the boundaries of sound and experiment with innovative textures.

As brothers, they naturally engage in healthy debates and disagreements, but these contrasting styles often complement each other perfectly, resulting in a unique hybrid sound that’s greater than the sum of its parts. They have amassed a substantial backlog of songs and plan to release more in the near future. However, their vision for Acrylic Army extends beyond just releasing singles—they aim to develop a broader artistic identity rooted in synergy, experimentation, and musical exploration that continues to evolve.
Jack and Matt aim to work more closely with the friends and artists they've connected with throughout their musical journey. They see Acrylic Army evolving into a symbol of community expression, fostering creative partnerships and collective growth.
For now, their primary focus remains on the services they offer through Magic Mountain Records. These include songwriting, recording, mixing, mastering, distribution, playlisting, and all aspects of audio production. Their guiding philosophy is rooted in inclusiveness, support, and encouragement. They believe in maintaining a balanced approach—being honest and transparent while respecting the unique situations and needs of each artist they work with—creating a supportive environment where creativity can thrive.
