CHAT SESSION 133 with MAXON and NAY
Topic- A Raw, Resonant Journey Across Stages, Stories, and the Search for Self
Monday 24th November 2025 1pm https://rppfm.com.au

Maxon is the kind of artist who can shatter your heart and stitch it back together in the same breath. With an award-winning pen, an arresting voice, and an unflinching devotion to emotional truth, she crafts songs that feel less like performances and more like intimate conversations with the deepest, most hidden parts of yourself. Her music lives at the crossroads of rawness and resilience—songs that dare to crack you open, hold you gently in the fallout, and then guide you toward a place of clarity, warmth, and light. To listen to Maxon is to be reminded that vulnerability is not a weakness but a form of courage.
After stepping away from the stage to recalibrate, rebuild, and reconnect with her creative core, Maxon returns in 2025 with her electrifying new single “18”, the first window into her much-anticipated debut album Talking With Strangers (due 2026). A gutsy fusion of Americana grit and ‘70s folk-rock nostalgia wrapped in a modern, confessional edge, “18” delivers a playful yet pointed jab at ageism in the music industry. Its spirited lyrics, swaggering guitars, and fearless sense of fun celebrate the thrill of making art at any age and on one’s own terms. With fire in its belly and a cheeky grin etched into every line, the track invites listeners to reject limitations, reclaim confidence, and turn the volume all the way up.
Supported by the Mornington Peninsula Shire and Creative Victoria grants, “18” marks Maxon’s first original solo release since 2021’s acclaimed Best Shot. That release became a defining moment—one that sharpened her artistic identity, clarified her voice, and marked her arrival as a solo force with something urgent and meaningful to say. In early 2025, she also unveiled Everything Is Green, a contemplative collaboration with Like Bear (Nay Pattuwage) that explores our shifting relationship with the natural world—a reflection on fragility, stillness, and the quiet spaces where humanity meets the earth.

Maxon’s musical journey has always extended beyond her own spotlight. She has been a vital contributor to collaborative projects including Delsinki’s Keep the Circle Unbroken Tour, performing alongside resonant voices such as Mick Thomas and Kylie Auldist, and featuring in their 2022 Port Fairy Folk Festival showcase. Across the years she has shared stages with Tones & I (Music in the Park), Alex Lahey (Sookie Lounge), Ella Hooper (MOTH), and numerous others—experiences that have shaped her reputation as not only a powerfully emotive vocalist but also a generous, magnetic performer who lifts the energy in any room she enters.
Her festival appearances read like a map of Victoria’s vibrant live-music culture: the Music Victoria Music Crawl, St Kilda Festival, Liven Local with Hachiku, and two sold-out performances with the If You See Her, Say Hello choir at The Toff in Town during the Melbourne Fringe Festival. Each show has added another layer to her artistry—another connection, another story, another reminder of why she makes music in the first place.
Returning home to Melbourne in 2024, Maxon assembled a formidable six-piece band and took to the stage in front of a sold-out crowd, unveiling a powerful suite of new songs destined for Talking With Strangers. The performance signalled the beginning of a thrilling new era—one defined by larger arrangements, deeper emotional stakes, and a renewed sense of artistic bravery. Working under the guidance of Charlotte Abroms (Hear Hear Group; former manager of Gretta Ray and Angie McMahon), Maxon is now preparing to release the album’s second single in September, offering another glimpse into a body of work already stirring anticipation among fans, tastemakers, and industry watchers alike.
At the heart of everything Maxon creates lies a profound desire to share the message of unconditional love. As an LGBTQIA+ woman, her path has been shaped by a lifelong search for acceptance—through its obstacles, its aching moments, and its hard-won triumphs. These experiences resonate unmistakably through her music. Her songs carry the imprint of a heavy heart and the resilience of someone who has walked through shadows and chosen, again and again, to move toward the light. Yet she stands in the world today with an openness that feels rare: a wild tenderness, a quiet strength, and an unwavering willingness to let others in.
With her creative fire newly ignited and a bold new chapter unfolding, Maxon steps forward with music that cuts deep, heals deeply, and reminds listeners that authenticity is a powerful form of resistance. This is not just a return—it is a re-emergence. And it marks only the beginning of what promises to be an extraordinary next era.
