On October 12th, Matt will undertake a remarkable challenge to acknowledge those lost to mental health struggles. In response to the tragic statistic of suicides in Australia in 2023, Matt has committed to completing as many pull ups as there were suicides in Australia last year, nearing 3300. This effort symbolizes his dedication to raising awareness, fostering dialogue about mental health, and contributing to efforts aimed at reducing this statistic.

In 2020, Matt came close to becoming a statistic. During the COVID 19 pandemic, he struggled with isolation and experienced severe loneliness, anxiety, and depression, culminating in a suicide attempt. Through his personal journey, Matt has learnt a great deal about himself and developed a passion for mental health. He now dedicates himself to helping others navigate their own struggles, offering them hope for a better, happier life.

Matt’s endeavour extends beyond physical achievement. His goal is to inspire individuals to open up about their mental health and to encourage proactive self-care. In addition to this personal challenge, Matt is organising a comprehensive Mental Health Wellness Day. This event is designed not as a fundraiser but as a supportive community gathering focused on mental health education and resources.

The event will showcase a range of services from local providers, each selected for their potential to positively impact mental health. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in activities that support mental health, such as ice baths, mindfulness exercises, breathwork, and more. Scheduled for October 12th, the Mental Health Wellness Day will take place at Virtus Performance in Mornington.

Virtus recognises that true progress in both physical fitness and mental health is a journey that thrives on authenticity, growth, and connection. The gym is dedicated to fostering an environment where individuals can be their genuine selves while pursuing excellence in every aspect of their well-being. Their approach emphasises that wellness is not just about physical strength but also about mental resilience. By integrating community support, education, and personal growth, Virtus helps members build both physical and mental strength.

Being part of the Virtus community means members are never alone in their pursuit of wellness. The connections made and the support received from others play a crucial role in personal development. By promoting authenticity and providing educational resources, Virtus creates an environment where everyone can thrive, ensuring that each step towards a healthier, more balanced self is supported by a strong, interconnected community. This alignment with Matt’s personal values is why he believes his event should be hosted at Virtus.

One of the core objectives of the Mental Health Wellness Day is to provide a platform for local businesses and individuals to showcase their mental health-related services and products. By bringing together a diverse range of service providers, Matt aims to create a holistic environment where community members can access the support and information they need to improve their mental health.

The event will be entirely free of charge, reflecting Matt’s commitment to making mental health support accessible to everyone. It aims to break down barriers that often prevent individuals from seeking help and to create a space where people feel comfortable discussing their mental health challenges without stigma.

Matt’s efforts signify the importance of community involvement in addressing mental health issues. By organising this event, Matt honours those who have struggled with mental health challenges and takes proactive steps to prevent further tragedies. His efforts highlight the belief that collective action can make a significant difference in addressing mental health concerns.

The Mental Health Wellness Day will also serve as a reminder that mental health is an ongoing journey. Everyone can benefit from paying attention to their mental well-being, whether through seeking professional help, participating in wellness activities, or simply talking to someone about their feelings. Each action contributes to the broader effort to improve mental health.

Matt’s initiative is a powerful reminder that everyone has a role in supporting mental health. Through awareness, education, and community engagement, individuals can work together to create a more understanding and supportive environment.

Join Matt on October 12th to be part of this crucial movement and help make a positive impact on mental health in the community. Because together, we can make a difference.
